The definition of Access Control is to restrict the use of an area within a building to authorised personnel, controlling who can and cannot access certain areas.

We use a variety of access control products ranging from standalone units to PC based systems, the way in which access is permitted also varies from system to system.

So how does it work?

Every unit whether it be standalone or PC based works in pretty much the same way. An authorised user would carry either a swipe card or proximity tag, this would be presented to a reader which analyses the data and either grants or denies access to the door in question.

The door would contain an electric lock which is connected to the system, if access is granted the lock would open, and if it is denied would remained locked.

This is a basic outlook on how a system would work, but is in no means primitive, the controllers are crafted from the very best electronic component's to give trouble free operation for years to come.
